Effects of childhood deficiency experiences due to cumulative disadvantages on the depression of adulthood : The mediating effect of socioeconomic status and life satisfaction

|
The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effects of socioeconomic status(education level, income) and life satisfaction in the relationship between childhood deficiency experiences due to cumulative disadvantages on the depression of adulthood. Data collected at the time of the 1st wave (2006) and the 14th wave (2019) of the study by the Korea Welfare Panel were combined for analysis. Total 297 subjects were tested by using PROGRESS macro(Model 80). Following were verified as the results of this study. First, as a result of path analysis, childhood deficiency experiences had a negative effect on adult income and life satisfaction, adult income had a positive effect on life satisfaction, and life satisfaction had a significant effect on adult depression. Second, as a result of sequentially mediation effect analysis, sequential mediating effect of the childhood deficiency experiences on the depression in adulthood by sequentially mediating the income and level of life satisfaction during adulthood was verified. As the conclusion that reflects the results of this study, it is necessary for the mental health social welfare practice field to understand negative social outlooks or views that can be induced due to the experiencing of deficiency during childhood, and practical intervention capable of preventing the possibility of risks that can lead to depression during adulthood is necessary in order to solve the issue of depression during adulthood. Based on these findings, practical and political suggestions were made to promote mental health of the adult.
